Havalon Stag Replaceable blade knife
As an elk guide in CO a knife is one of our most crucial pieces of equipment. I have used many knives over the years but replaceable blade knife have taken the cake. These blades are sharp and pretty easy to change out, although I suggest using the special tool or a pair of pliers to change blades for safety. I was worried with this particular knife of the handle being slick when I got bloody but that’s not the case. It fits well in your hands and is comfortable to hold. I buy blades off of Amazon for pretty cheap, one thing I have noticed is between the #60A and #60 blades is I prefer the #60 blades. #60A blades have a piece at the bottom that sticks down and it has caught on hide, meat and other things and pulled the blade off. The #60 blades do not have this heel on them and I have not had them get caught (see attached photo of the 2 blades and you can see the heel at the bottom and base of the blade of the #60A). As always with these replaceable blade knives DO NOT leave your old blades in the carcass, I carry a small plastic pouch with me to put my old blades in to dispose of properly.
