My dad still tells me he and my mom picked up the wrong baby at the hospital. You see, Dad doesn't hunt. Until I got the bug, hunting wasn't a part of our family. Dad, of course, was supportive. However, hunting wasn't his thing. He would offer the cash if I needed new baseball cleats, gloves, or bat. When I needed steel shotshells, warm boots, and clothing, he would say, "Hunting is your thing. It's your hobby. You have a job and are in high school. If you want hunting gear, you need to pay for it."

Ouch!

Even in 1995, hunting gear was expensive. I needed warm boots and clothing more than anything. Goose and duck hunting were high on my priority list, and twice between my Freshman and Junior year of high school, I got frostbite.

At an early age while hunting waterfowl, I learned how valuable warm gear was.

There is nothing worse than being cold. Today, I don't worry about the cold. I have the gear to keep my butt in the treestand, trudging through snow across the Rockies, etc. The proper late-season clothing makes all the difference.
